How high have you got? usually if you get around 8-10 likes within a short period of time you'll probably find your meme somewhere around page 4 - 6. its very hard to get on front page, and it will happen when you least expect it. i see a lot of reposts of memes that are even currently on the front page and that will never work. the best ones are ones that have an unexpected surprise in them, not just a pun or tired old joke. I see you had 68 upvotes on a bad luck brian meme. that must have gotten to the second page at least?? bad luck brian IS the king of imgflip. I see you have 45 featured submissions. Not to bust anyones bubble but I know people that have 500+ submissions and maybe only have 5-10 front page memes. Its not easy to make front page, so best to just have fun making memes, and have fun participating in the community.

yeah that Bad luck Brian meme that i made almost made it to the Frontpage but it ended up in the Second page (sigh) almost there :)

Best tips I can give, 1st make what makes you laugh and try not to be too obscure with what you're referencing. 2nd do lots of commenting, its good practice for making memes and fun to see the responses.

I agree, I signed up to make a couple of memes for a website I was building. I started throwing out a couple of submissions here and there, then one got comments. I've been hooked ever since.
