Huh? I don't get it.

It was in reference to all the downvotes that some memes we're getting. . mostly in the comments. it seems that trolls loved to use the downvote button. now it's not there. I think the download button was over used by anyone who did not like a user or disagreed with their opinions

Oh OK. But aren't there some who might miss it for legitimate reasons?

Just out of curiosity brother.. what would be your legit reasons. I was looking at pros and cons.. and the pros (IMHO), outweigh cons if every user is straight up.

I'm not really sure what the legit reasons would be. I said that because some of the users on this site that I respect most and have the most experience have come out and said losing the downvote button is a bad idea, and I respect their experience. I think there's some concern about whether it will be easier now for "dud" memes to make the front page, without the downvote button.

My other concern initially was that it would be harder to fight spammers/trolls without a downvote button, but it looks like they've kept the downvote button for comments (as far as I can tell) so that's not as much of an issue as I thought.

You enlightened me. I thought all downvote options were gone. I never downvote,.. upvote or ignore. I figure ignoring is similar. But what I can tell, like in the meme feud with tetsuowrath and kosheRocker. . Downvoting hurt other Memers as well. If I upvote your comments, and a user who don't like you comes behind me and downvotes them, it cancelled the points others are trying to give. And what I could see in their issue, it encourages these haters to create alt accts to upvote their own stuff and add more downvotes to users they dislike. I almost wish imgflip could monitor the IP's so insure one acct. I have one acct. . And use my phone. It limits me to the same generic templates (as you probably noticed), but keeps it fair. IMHO.

I'm still figuring out what's changed. It seems like you can remove points from comments by downvoting them, but it doesn't affect featured memes. I still downvote spam and malicious comments.

Yeah, I think you're right that it's a good thing there won't be any more "downvote" wars between users. Perhaps that's one reason they removed the button (maybe even the main reason).

The thing I like most so far about losing the downvote button is that I feel like I can give more "honest" upvotes.

What I mean is that when I used to go through the latest stream, I felt almost obliged to upvote any half-decent memes that had 1 or 2 downvotes on them, even if I wouldn't have upvoted them normally (just to save them from going back to submission).

But now I feel like I can just upvote the memes I personally like, which is more fun.

I don't always comment.. with some exceptions because I'm on a phone,.. but like you I upvote anything just halfway creative. I'm also more cautious who I even respond to when I see a new icon and negative message. . After my experience with shaitans_muse. He was an @ss and screwed with my memes and kept flagging my stuff, not allowing me to leave meme comments and in some cases having memes put back in "submitted limbo",.. even with popular memes. That's why I would k like to see one IP... and if they abuse the Terms agreement.. ban them. Again. . IMHO. ;)

I'm sure... not my best meme! Ideas come and go.. and that seemed a topic. I've been a little dry in ideas. ;)
