Actually, spelt is acceptable in Canada.

I guess it's just a cultural thing. When someone says I "smelt" something, I always tell them smelt is a fish. My wife will say, "you spelt that wrong" and I'll tell her spelt is not a fish. Lol!

Actually, spelt is correct when referring to a type of wheat grown in Europe and is used incorrectly when referring to past tense of spelled. Grammar nazis, engage!

"Spelt" is an acceptable alternative for "spelled." It's not common in the United States, but it's not incorrect usage.

I guess it's just a regional thing then. I'm not so cultured, I guess. Lol!
