Abraham Lincoln never owned slaves. His family was too poor to own slaves, and so poor that AL himself was contracted out to a creditor.

I believe he also declared that his slaves would be set free after he and his wife died.

1) I will not look up a citation. If you don't know basic history then you need to get a book and learn.
2) tekbarrier, that's an ignorant comment. The whole point of the meme is that simply saying GW owned slaves gives the absolute wrong impression. Of course he owned slaves. He purchased many slaves, both to work the land, and to preserve families. And he worked his entire life to free as many as possible. He saw them as people in a time when slavery just WAS. Saying he owned slaves paints him as a hypocrite, which is the opposite of the truth.

Slaves were considered property not people. Ownership would be the correct term. Even if he didn't treat them as property. It's just stating a fact not downgrading his character.

Still missing the point...instead of trying to start an argument, try to start thinking.

I was just saying technically he owned slaves, but that doesn't discredit him and his beliefs of viewing them as people.
