it has been proven that the Gospels are forgeries written by a Greek who was "sent" to the Middle East to search for a Unifying religion for Rome...
there are no mentions in any texts of the period, and even from soon after, of a guy named "jesus" (especially because it's Greek name that people were already familiar with).
I could go on and on about the lack of evidence...even "anecdotal" evidence mentions no "jesus" as a religious figure at the time.

Actually no it hasn't been proven the case, even non Christian scholarship acknowledges the historical existence of Jesus. Jesus is mentioned in the historical writings of Tacitus: The Annals of Imperial Rome, Luciens satirical attacks on Christianity, Pliny the Younger, Celsus, Suetonius all hostile sources who attack the divinity of Christ but none who dispute his existence. The only reason why the Jesus never existed argument gets any traction these days is because the events are so far in the past, at the time this argument against Christianity wasn't even an option. Not to mention the writings of the Church Fathers some who were taught directly by the apostles.

No all the new testament books date within the 1st century, many before 70 A.D. some like James as early as the 40s. Most of Paul's epistles would be in the 50's and 60's. The latest being Revelation being in the late 80s early 90s.

Look at it this way. Tomorrow I start spouting off about speaking to God and had a book claiming to be how we should live our lives. Would you follow me without at least having some proof?

I know a guy named Jesus. He exists. And that doesn't mean religion is correct. I'm not claiming anything is the "right" option. I'm just stating that it's beyond ridiculous to believe blindly in something that appears to be so much more likely to be just a system of control.
