We've probably been spied on since the technology was available. So probably since the 1950's? I was not shocked or suprised by the "news" about the government spying on us.

I'm not a "tin foil hat" kind of person, but I know that behind the scenes there is always something we dont know about. I don't like the idea of having my rights violated. If he keeps us safe as a country though, I can deal with it.

So, your personal phone call possibly being flagged for review is lost freedom? That's just so horrific. If they were bugging your house and listening in I could see being this upset... but this? You'll have to do better.

The Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution provides, "[t]he right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Bulk data collecting is considered a general warrant (which is illegal) thus violates the "place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Change the way you vote then. The Patriot Act was set by Bush with an expiration date that Obama extended indefinitely. I, for one, could care less about my "bulk data". If you want to listen to my wife talk nonsense and even use that data to try to market products to me, so be it. It doesn't change anything I do. I'm not sure why so many people are concerned about phone calls sitting on a server somewhere. You realize they only pull and listen to the calls that are flagged and pertinent to an active investigation right?

The fourth amendment is like a dam. You don't allow it to be eroded because it still holds back water. You prevent the erosion to ensure it continues to hold back water.
