Future of imgflip spam 2

Okay. All these new updates the mods have tried are not helping. Doesn't matter if they update imgflip to make it that users cannot post meme comments until they have like 5,000 or 10,000 points. These trolls find ways to easily get so many points then spam (porn etc.). I have sent the moderators my email so they can contact me and I told them we need more moderators and I am happy to be one.

imgflip has become a phantom regime, the mods are just saying alright, guys this flagging system makes you look intimidating to spammers, you are "powerful now" alright bye, we gotta take a vacation

Yeah. What I keep thinking is, we need a way to trace back the IP addresses of these guys. It's really only a few actual people behind the screens, they just have a ton of alts. I think that, if we're able to, we should keep track of how many comment downvotes, bans and flags a certain IP address has gotten, and how many accounts they've made with that address. If it shows that they have had many accounts that have had a significant number of bans, flags and downvotes, that should be a pretty accurate judge of who is a troll and the address should be banned.

eh, ip banning isnt the smartest idea, nor will it be effective, they could come back using tor or a proxy, they should make it so that if an account posts the same image more than once and it doesnt have good results it stops that file from being posted

That should stop the trolls in their tracks! (And it made creating a new email a priority for me, so I got it done)

And that image block sounds good, except since I continually see the same nudes posted by one user, does it automatically block some images or something? Because I'd think that otherwise we'd be seeing some more, uh, diverse images.

I say it is an automatic block, the flagging, an is not shown until reviewed by MODS. But that power is reserved for a few unknown people.

I agree with allthegoodusernamesweretakensohi, maybe it should have it so when people flag something, they have to fill out why they flagged it, and then the flag wont be shown until a mod reviews it. also i was thinking maybe if a meme has alot of down-votes, it then displays the most common thing people filled out why they downvoted it next to the polls. that way it could also help the creator make better content.

I know trolling stupid comments can be fun (and it's even more fun to argue) but what about porn spammers? Hmm? Last time I checked, that's only entertaining to pervs. Anyway, according to Kanaloa (thank you for somewhat explaining to me something I still don't really get; I'll just smile and say, "Yeah, ok, I understand now" :P) you can change proxies/tor/whatever-the-heck-it-is, which would ruin my whole plan anyway.

I don't mind certain spammers, but they should make it so that if a comment gets flagged enough for just general spam it should be hidden, but can be seen with a button

No, like a browsing function so you can choose to disable it or else you won't be able to see well flagged comments

I was actually thinking of starting my own spam account called SpookyScarySkeleton, I was gonna post nothing but skeletons in the comment section, and I already got it to 1000 points so I can image comment via making memes and getting upvotes, but I found the task boring, so I did not decide to spam skeletons.

No offense, but you might not be the best MOD to decide who stays. Remember that time when you used to hate Flip.Batcha? If you were a MOD back then, you would have banned him. But he changed. On the other hand, I'm not a hacker, but I was able to find out that they are making 3 new icons using simple things.

Point shop as in buying points or spending? Because I hope that the Pro accounts don't get too amazingly better than regular, or we can pay for points or something. I know a ton of sites that I feel have been ruined because wealthier users have the ability to purchase their way to the top.

That might be cool, but in a beta mode with a rising popular meme site, there would be so many hacks into the system. Spammers would get the crown in no time. This system has been tested, and works pretty well.

it wouldnt exactly mean buying icons, like you can buy perks for your account like a 5 hour point multiplier or a colored name tag or even the option to buy custom icons

5 hour point multiplier? That's what I'm talking about. Say one person works very hard, but they can't afford that multiplier. Then one person who puts half the effort into his memes buys a multiplier.

But i think he means you buy it with a different currency, maybe you get 1 token every few thousand points or something.

I bet those would start out as available to anyone, but would end up as Pro perks. Still a cool idea.

Well, yeah, I know they provide funding for the site and everything--it can't run itself--but I'm willing to bet that a large majority of users aren't pro. Giving pro unfair benefits would create a rift.

Honestly there is no point arguing who would be a good mod or who wouldn't. Because none of us are actually going to be mods anyways. We are just here to discuss about the spam on this site and what we can do about it. All that can really happen is more better moderation.

Could you possibly increase the number of required points to perform a 'meme comment' up to 20k or more because new troll accounts, alternatives are all able to reach that low amount of points required to so a meme comment, it would likely prevent nudes, porn, disgusting trolls etc. As users who are on intermidate or pro level will not do these sort of cheap tricks.

If I didn't have a hand-up to get to 1000 points, I might have given up. With a submission limit, meme comments are the only fun left. I got to 600 points and I got a hand up to 1000

There are legit new users out there that would give up if we significantly increase minimum points to submit meme comments. We have to find a solution so that we keep the community going.

Point shop or anything would apparently be a downfall for users who are not going to spend bucks on buying points, it would kill creativity and innovative ideas and will become all money game.

Tbh... the imgflip community has been working wonderfully from a new users perspective. I believe that slightly closer monitoring from the mods would be wonderful, but other than that I see no flaws in the system. People who are legitimately trolling will be flagged and banned accordingly, but that is up to the actual imgflip community to decide. Although, this is just my opinion and I am fairly new, I see that the system would work better if people would stop complaining about the flag button and just use it more when they feel as if trolling is involved. It's like a democracy now with the flags and I believe that is the way to go! ;)
