Using Windows core, you get 10 after 7 and 8.

Teacher: Can you get 12 with 1+8?
Student: No.
Teacher: Wrong, (7 - 3) + 8 = 12

Is this what common core is? Because I'm not american (if it's an american thing)

Yes. I worked in a school. One of the questions a student had stated: Jan has 7 stickers. Her brother givers her 6 more stickers. How many stickers does Jan have now? It was multiple choice. The choices to pick from were 10, 14, 16, 18. The correct answer was 14. I did a face palm.

Exactly, sometimes teachers have no idea what they're even teaching. Common Core can get away with a person who had always been in intensive classes and put them as a teacher for a bunch of Gifted students.
