It's a genuine question

What will killing him solve? What will it change?

How is justice served by his death? How is that better than a life in prison?

Well he did kill other people. I was wondering why that doesn't justify the death penalty.

I suggest reading Sister Helen Prejean's Dead Man Walking, in which she systematically lists and demolishes the arguments for the death penalty (it's more expensive, it doesn't deter crime more than life imprisonment, it has a long history in this country of being applied in a biased way, et alia).

Why would it? How is another death justice?

Revenge? Certainly. But how is that justice?

It's not.

If it doesn't serve justice, then why are we doing it? How is turning a man's death into entertainment in the service of justice?

We condemn countries like Iran, Sudan, Afghanistan, and North Korea for carrying out public executions. We're supposed to stand up against that, not do it.

Turning a man's death at the hands of the state into entertainment isn't justice. It's barbarism.

It's everything we're not supposed to be.
