Wow, sorry you had to go through that. I had a reaction to meds the VA gave me once. The effects were immediate, I drank massive amounts of fluids, called for help and flushed all of them. The VA sent a replacement and updated my chart. Now I take only what is necessary, watch my diet, exercise and make sure I get outside in the sun as often as I can.
My father, grandfather and uncles taught me the value of hard physical work. They would rest when needed but would always say, if I stop, I die. As they aged they all got the same medical advice, slow down, take it easy. They were the type of men that would have a heart attack and a week later be running a tractor.
The uncle the trolls love to make fun of uses a 6lp hammer daily. He could beat any three of them in an arm-wrestling match. I am in great shape, but not like they were. They had what I call work muscles. Strength shows in such men, one look in their eyes when they got angry and men's knees got week. Dad and most of his brothers are gone now but they all made impressive runs. One day someone will call and tell me they found my uncle in his shop, out on a trail or in the fields, no matter where he goes down, they will probably find him holding a tool of some sort and with a massive grin.
