Yes, he had courage. But it would have been better if he'd gotten the other eleven jurors on his side. Because he failed to do that, the trial ended in a mistrial when it could have ended with a guilty verdict.
At least there will be a retrial elsewhere. On a bit of a sidenote, that defense lawyer needs to charged with contempt of court for insulting the judge and that juror like he did.
