Not true for most of of the socialist democracies; and if you claim that that's true about communism, we're back to the "real communism hasn't happened".

I honestly haven't been able to find one irl. They all think China is communist or at least socialist. I don't think they're close. They're like... stealing oil from other asian countries I think.

China IS officially communist, but they've veered a long way from what used to be called "state socialism" with the fully planned economy, and they're much more capitalistic these days, but with a lot of state supervision that cuts into what we would consider to be essential rights (privacy, free speech, assembly, et cetera).

It's not a paradise, but if you remember where they were in 1900, or in 1949, it's a pretty remarkable resurgence.

if by official you mean they claim to be, then no, they claim to be socialist. America technically has the same laws against free speech, they're just more lenient, or managed by a corporation.
