Humanizing demons is the bigger of the two problems. A lot of times fiction writers and journalists attempt to evoke sympathy for people who really don't deserve any sympathy.
The four teenagers in "I Know What You Did Last Summer" (1997) didn't deserve any sympathy for what they did.
I agree, the media always glazes those hideous saiyans and goes so far as saying lord frieza was responsible for their extinction, but in reality they got wiped out by a meteor. How stupid!
