Coin... green shell... another coin...

Well, coins just suck, but green shells and bananas are useful for protection. If you have a coin, don't use it immediately. I'm pretty sure that if you're still holding it by the time you get a new item box, that new item is guaranteed not to be a coin; if you did use the coin, then you have a chance of getting a new coin. Also, holding on to that coin means you have protection against boos. Nothing sucks more than having a super horn or a mushroom in first and then having it stolen.

From what I've heard, Boos do not steal Super Horns in Mario Kart World, only in 8 Deluxe.

yeah you right you can only have 1 coin at a time (sometimes you can have 2 online due to the server breaking a little)

You're actually more likely to get worse power ups at a higher rank but the losing players get OP stuffs

the items are not totally random the game determines what to give you based on your position such as a star if you're in a lower position. But if you're in first you get bananas because they're the worst to make it fair for the racers in the lower positions. there are plenty videos that explain this on YouTube.

RedLegoMonkey essentially said most of the things, but a few extra things not mentioned, if you want good items you can intentionally lag behind, in first you will mostly get coins, shells, and bananas, which really only offer green and red shell protection, in 2nd place you have a 70% chance of getting a red shell, and in (I think at least) 3rd to 5th place you have high mushroom odds, and at the start you can intentionally stay at the back (called bagging) where you get the best items, allowing you to chain them into more good items as you go to the front, and if done right you now have a star in first place, just for it to get taken by a boo
