There's a very, very good reason for this. When a 3D computer animated movie and a 2D traditionally animated movie come out in the same year, the 3D computer animated movie usually makes more money. Check the numbers for yourself.
In 1995, the 3D CGI movie "Toy Story" made more money than the 2D-animated movie "Pocahontas":
