Conservatives have never said slavery was okay. Do one small research project, the 3/5ths Compromise. Communists try to say our founders thought that Africans were only 60% human. What a lie. Democrat run slave states wanted to count slaves in the census as if they were free citizens, so that they would have additional Congressional representation to keep slavery legal. Abolitionist northern states planned that in time, they would have the legislative majority to eventually outlaw slavery peacefully as industrial states grew more rapidly than agrarian states. Rather than divide the new nation over the slavery issue, the northern states compromised instead of fighting to the death over enslaved people being counted as free. Oh, I bet you don't like that.
