It's 12: 15 here now.
There's a lot of Italians here, especially in this neighborhood and that one, although both have changed over the decades and aren't as totally Italian as they used to be. The neighborhood in A Bronx Tale is called Belmont (officially), or usually Arthur Avenue by the locals. It is known as The Little Italy of the Bronx. There's a ton of Italian restaurants, bakeries, and butchers, cheese, fresh pasta, etc there, as well as a big church that's almost like a cathedral. Tourist buses even come to the neighborhood. Some people that grew up there but moved away years ago will drive an hour or more just to pick up meats for a 4th of July BBQ for Christmas.
I've actually had more dreams about that place that probably anything else in my life in recent years, the neighborhood and also my apartment. But it looks different in everyone. I guess I dream about it because I was free there, at least free from my family. Unfortunately apartments are all expensive there now, and also the neighborhood is more and more dangerous, plus many of the people I used to know aren't around anymore, so I doubt I'll get to move back.
Italians here usually just speak in English here, but some use some Italian cuss words or other funny ones, as well as food names.
I understand some italian, but also because I speak some Spanish (not totally fluent, but enough to get by), I can alter that enough to sound more Italian when I need to translate for an elderly Italian looking for something in a supermarket. Sometimes I even understand Italian more easily than Spanish because Spanish speakers tend to talk really fast.
I was going to reply to a similar question you asked the other day, but it's lost in a row of open tabs of other replies I have to get to.
