I’m sure that both have happened, on numerous occasions. There are a lot of Democrats who belong to the Catholic Church. Over the decades it’s been infiltrated by the far-left like every other institution in the country has. The congregations and the clergy as well. When you have popes like the last two (Francis and Leo) the leftists feel emboldened to act like they are the true representatives of the church.
That’s what the last pope said as well. Other popes of the past have leaned to the left, but these last two have been two of the biggest liberals/progressives that’ve ever served as pope.
