Thank you for sharing some chess history with me. One of the neat things about chess today is that if you get your pawn to the other side of the board, you can promote that pawn to a queen. (You can also choose to promote that pawn to a rook, bishop or knight).

If high school proms have kings and queens, those kings and queens should get more than sashes, scepters and crowns. Give them a small amount of authority. Lead them to the control panel for the dance venue so that they can change the lighting and/or the music.

In deed. There's also a pawn-meets-pawn move called "En Passant" - a bit complex to describe and extremely rare to really have to use.
Anyway. I didn't read the old Queens exact powers, just about her limited movement
