... in aviation, this is a BIG no-no. If that part were to fail and cause a crash, there would be serious legal consequences. Every little part has to be serialized and traceable back to the manufacturer and even the person who installed it.

This endless record-keeping and the possibility of being held personally liable for a mistake is why I didn't become an aircraft mechanic.
