Yeah, they support restrictions on what companies can do and consumer/worker rights, but they still want to keep the capitalist system intact.

Bernie Sanders is sorta on the more socialist side, his campaigns and beliefs are way more anti-corporation. However there were leaked emails from 2016 showing the DNC (basically the core of the democrat party) basically shooting his campaign dead from within so Hillary Clinton would become the leading candidate for the party.

See I view leftism as just the opposite of rightism. Just far left ideologies tend to correspond with socialism and democrat beliefs. I probably should look deeper into the topic though before debating this

Well democrats are still on the right economically, it's just that republicans are a lot farther right so the average American views democratics as leftist

in fact, a lot of European political parties that strongly coincide with democrat beliefs are considered on the mild right by their standards, due to how Europe is generally close to the center of the spectrum overall
