He's got a cell phone in his hand at the beginning of the conflict. But when he's struggling with 4 Border Patrol officers that's his Sig pistol in his hand. It's too big and bulky to be a phone.

It's very well possible that his gun discharged first which kicked off the fireworks.
Maybe you'd care to explain what that item in his hand is? It's about 2 inches thick. No cell phone is that thick.
