Abortion is a grave sin and a "moral evil", however it is not unforgivable to God.
God’s mercy is available to any person who is truly repentant and seeks reconciliation.
Now, sharing something relevant to this topic as per Dr. Laura Schlessinger. This is NOT about God's mercy and His forgiveness but it is about forgiveness between humans.
Dr. Laura advocates for a strict, conditional approach to HUMAN forgiveness based on the "4 R's":
- Remorse,
- Responsibility,
- Repair,
- No Repeats.
She argues that true forgiveness is sacred, requires accountability from the offender, and should not be coerced nor be granted just to excuse harmful behavior.
The 4 R's: Before granting forgiveness, the offender must show Remorse (genuine regret), take Responsibility (no excuses), make Repair (fix the damage), and ensure Repeats do not happen.
Forgiveness vs. Condoning: Dr. Laura emphasizes that forgiveness does not mean forgetting, excusing, or enabling continued abuse or bad behavior.
Self-Forgiveness: She addresses the difficulty people have with forgiving themselves, noting that holding onto guilt is a common issue.
Cost of Forgiveness: She views forgiveness as a "costly" action where the victim bears the consequences of another's sin to release themselves from bitterness.
Reconciliation: Forgiveness is a one-sided act, which does not always lead to reconciliation.
