he has to look good for the people he hates because he hopes that he looks bigger and more important, but for his wife, he trusts that she loves him no mater what he looks like and believes that there is no use for good clothes there.
No argument here. I've always found more formal, stylish clothes to be less comfortable and certainly more expensive. Comfort while relaxing should be the most important consideration while at home.
