Japan started it by attacking Pearl Harbor. America finished it by dropping nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Not really. Without nuclear bombs, America would have had to execute a full-scale D-day style invasion of Japan using ground troops, which would have gotten at least two million people killed on both sides. The two atomic bombs only killed 210,000 people.

And how many of those 210,000 were civilians? And how many civilians were estimated casualties in a ground invasion?
