They probably just mean they don't want you switching over to the other genders tournaments, its not fair
Im not really sure what the mental differences are that spit genders up in chess, but oh well

Agreed. Sounds more like men not wanting women to beat them (but prefer beating women. In the other meaning). Archery used to be a mixed sport at the Olympics. Until a woman won gold. The men complained she had an 'unfair advantage' and demanded women and men should be divided in sports tournaments.
