Without Books, we'll be barbarians

Yes, we should preserve books. But we should also preserve other forms of expression, such as audio recordings, paintings, photographs, movies and games. People say "Words have power", but that's not always true. We need to be able to use other forms of communication to get a point across for when words don't have power.

In the novel in question, there was a group of people who literally memorized what were in books before the Firemen burned them. One of the books they memorized for sure was the Bible.

Other things got 'burned' including funerals. Why? Because funerals are 'sad, depressing, and tend to be expensive'. And here is the real kicker. It wasn't the government by itself that decided to burn everything that was 'offensive'. It was the populace. As a Fireman explained it, "Whites were made uncomfortable by Uncle Tom's Cabin! Burn it! Blacks were offended by Little Black Sambo! Burn it!"

It's implied the book's society started a lot of it and the only reason government went along with it was to prevent a rebellion. That society didn't want to be offended so badly they ended up 'burning' their personal and God given Rights and Freedoms. That government didn't have to much of anything in order to get to people to be 'comfortable and not offended'.
