Once upon a time in the US, restaurants, delis, grocery stores, etc would give excess/unused food of the day to the soup kitchens and the like to feed the poor/homeless. . .even hunters who found themselves with excess meat from the animals they killed had ways to give away that meat to the poor. . . .

Then one day government told all these businesses and hunters, "You can't do that anymore!" Now food is just wasted and thrown out and the poor go even more hungry than before. . .and dumpster diving. . .government must consider that a damn Olympic sport that's somehow more safe and sanitary than people prepping the food and handing it out. . .
