The left did it by their government establishing a federal level Gorge Orwell '1984' style Ministry of Truth to both censor and dox conservatives -- and leftists . . . cheered. The Right is simply calling for volunteers to voluntarily give up things.
It's a revelation that the Political Left apparently cannot comprehend the fundamental differences between the two outlooks and approaches.
