Trump has consistently and vehemently denied making the remarks. He stated, "I would be willing to swear on anything that I never said that about our fallen heroes. There is nobody that respects them more".
The White House at the time attributed the canceled cemetery visit to poor weather. Other former aides, including Zach Fuentes and John Bolton, denied the claims, with Fuentes saying he did not hear the comments. Then-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also said he never heard Trump use those words.
