Can wind be harnessed to make, oh, say…a computer, or a plastic bottle, or any one of the millions of items that require fossil fuels?
How about sunlight? Can a sun beam produce any of those aforementioned items?

Wind and solar are impractical and not cost effective on a continental basis. Neither produce consistently to satisfy a continuous demand. Over building of generating capacity is necessary. Massive battery storage would be required, driving up the cost. Portions of the country are not conducive to reliable solar or wind generation.

There is not enough copper being mined to replace every internal combustion engine with electric motors. There’s not enough raw materials capacity to build batteries to replace every thing that runs on gas. There is no planned infrastructure in the works to deliver electricity to 100s of millions of electric cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, and power tools. There is no planning to dispose of millions of depleted, toxic solar panels when they wear out beginning in the next 20 years. Decommissioned windmills are being buried because there is no way to recycle them.
