I understand your strategy. People don't mess with you when they're scared of you. And sometimes scaring someone out of their mind is the only way to get them to do the right thing. 80 years ago, we Americans had to drop two atomic bombs on Japan to scare them into surrendering. The other option, an all-out full-scale D-day style invasion of Japan by ground troops, would have gotten at least two million people on both sides killed, and that's assuming it worked. The bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki killed between 100,000 and 250,000 people.
