What the progressives lack is math.

Even if all the "rich" had their money taken away, there wouldn't be enough to notice an increase in the wealth of the rest.

let me do some math, total wealth of US billionaires is 6.2 trillion, and theres roughly 771,480 homeless people in the US, that equals 8,036,501 or 8 billion going to each homeless person. now lets do wealth of the billionaires divided by the US population and it equals out to 18,235 dollars a person, and thats just taking the money of the billionaires, the people that progressives want to target.

You may be right.
But do you really think that can be put into practice?

The result is usually even worse if those ideas actually reach the government, normally when a government comes to defend ending a minority of poor people with the money of the rich, the result is that the minority of poor people becomes the majority, the government appropriates the wealth for its own benefit, the richest leave the country to another that treats them better, and the government takes away the wealth from those who are not rich enough to decide to emigrate, the result is a totalitarian dictatorship with a lot of government delinquency, poverty, hunger, crime, and mass migrations.
