More like we just don't wanna worry about getting shot by some drunk cowboy every time we go for a McDonald's lol. Guns are quite dangerous. I'd prefer it if only a few highly trained people had one rather than millions of randos.
Anyway, the US Dems (if that's what you're referring to like most people seem to be on here) are hardly "socialists". They'd probably be classed as centre-right in a lot of countries.
