See Portugal for an example of this that has worked a bit better. They decriminalized (note: not legalized) all drugs in 2001. Overdose deaths have apparently since dropped by around 70–80%, along with a couple of other things like HIV cases.
Catch: Works much better if you have crazy commie stuff like universal public health care, so might be a little while longer til it comes to the US (not long to go now – just give it a couple of centuries or so and don't forget to sign up to the waiting list next week so you don't miss out).
Also they don't have to worry *quite* as much about crazy Mexican drugs cartels or fentanyl smugglers and other dangerous organized crime syndicates, which is a bit like the modern-day Al Capone in Prohibition 2.0.
(The first one went better than expected, as we all know, just like the war in Afghanistan which was also a resounding success by all accounts and was over before Christmas. So just give it a few more years, some more crop-spraying and raids in Latin America, and a dozen or so more new prisons because the US prison population is at risk of slipping from its global #1 gold trophy spot, and the War on Drugs should finally have achieved its noble goal of saving society from the evils of illicit mind-altering substances.)
Anyway, don't worry, because Trump will fix everything. He always does. #BestPresidentEver
(Just shut up about those fake files and let the man do his job already. You're getting in the way of his genius, you silly people.)
