No. The Democrats have not introduced articles of impeachment against any Republican president. Democratic representatives brought impeachment proceedings against Richard Nixon, but they eventually had Republican support, which forced Nixon out.
The only party that has weaponized Congress’ oversight powers is the Republican Party, especially regarding Hillary Clinton when they were afraid she would win the election of 2016.
In Trump’s case, impeachment has been warranted at least since Robert Mueller’s report demonstrates 140 instances of Russian collusion with the Trump campaign and 10 attempts by Trump to obstruct that investigation. But if the Republicans had any integrity they would have opened investigations into Trump’s corruption in 2017.
For instance, they could have looked into Trump’s overruling his own Commerce Department’s sanctions on the Chinese telecom ZTE for selling prohibited technology to North Korea and Iran — and then receiving a $500 million investment in a Trump Indonesian development project from a Chinese state controlled bank.
Does that look like a conflict of interest to you. Because it does to me. If that doesn’t warrant an impeachment inquiry then nothing does.
Still, as the GOP has demonstrated that they value their own political survival ahead of the honor of the Republic, it falls to the Democrats alone to hold Trump finally accountable now over His blatant extortion of Ukraine to develop a false narrative of corruption by the Biden family in advance of the election of 2020.
So the Democrats went after Nixon for good reason in 1974, and they are going after Trump for good reason today.
Don’t worry though. I’m sure the next time the GOP controls Congress when a Democrat is president they will no doubt run fake investigations into fake scandals once again. Because that’s what they do.
