too much of a good thing isn't great

too much of a good thing isn't great | As a moderate leftist, my reason for occasionally shifting to the right has not been right wing policies per se, but left-wing cancel culture. Cancel culture CAN be good, and it has been used to bring shady deeds done by otherwise respected individuals to light. But sometimes it has gone TOO far.

I've heard of people losing their jobs and being cut off by their friends and family, all just for leaning to the right. It's something we leftists need to learn from because we are now witnessing some level of cancel culture in the other direction, especially in Hollywood and the federal workforce. | image tagged in spicymasterchief's announcement template, opinion, cancel culture, politics, america, life | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

Because it's terrible beer. It's just funny that they had to pay a trans influencer to make you realize how bad it was.

Corporations care about profit, not feelings. We should've realized that.

This really makes me wonder where you're from. Your views are moderate right, if anything.

Buddy I said cancel culture IS a good thing sometimes. How else would people like Diddy, Bill Cosby, and Kevin Spacey be exposed? But if we start attacking the average blue-collar or white-collar Republican and make their life worse, that's going to push people further to the right. They'll stop seeing us as the good guys.

But I differ from the establishment Dems in office because I'm more in favor of peaceful Palestinian sovereignty than they are. They rely on AIPAC money as much as the Republicans, making it difficult to criticize the more extreme actions of Israel.

To make things clear, I don't support Hamas, and believe that Israel would still be the "good guy" if they only targeted terrorists and were willing to work on a two-state system or single multinational state after the war. But sadly, they have been oppressing innocent Palestinians since their founding, and now they're using our taxpayer money to do so.

I was found to be establishment liberal, so I do try to seek more ties with moderates and conservatives than the radical left. They compromise more, so even if their bills are less effective, they can pass them more easily.

I hear you. It's a relief to get predators exposed and ostracized. However, the right wing has been pushing this narrative that "wokeness" means attacking ordinary blue-collar Republicans. So, the question is, does acknowledging that other groups have worth and have their own perspectives on American history actually hurt you? Because that's crazy bananas.

It doesn't hurt me. But if we can have diversity of gender and race, why can't we also have diversity of politics?

We certainly should have diversity of politics. Xenophobia isn't a good look for anyone, though.

Maybe they don't hate immigrants but feel as if our country is taking more than it can handle? Which leads to increased job competition for by-birth and naturalized citizens?

The US has failed to meet its replacement birth rate for years, and relied on immigrants to make up that difference, as well as filling out many crucial job sectors. People who are feeling that their jobs are being taken by illegal immigrants may be responding from hysteria rather than reason.
1 up, 5d
Yes, but the U.S. birthrate is still higher than that of several other developed countries, especially those in Asia and Eastern Europe. Those countries could benefit more from immigration than us, as their young workforce is shrinking. But they're too restrictive on migration to offset the large influx of immigrants into America and Western Europe. We need immigration and we shouldn't treat immigrants the way Trump has, but we need regulated immigration.
