Examples:
Poor diet, stress, being in survival mode constantly. That sort of stuff does impact cells.
As an example, tobacco used to be a “mark of sophistication” (think of the smoking in Mad Men). Now tobacco (and vape products) are mostly marketed towards more “downmarket” demographics.
Gambling- the biggest “pokie dens” (gaming machine venues) are in lower socioeconomic communities. Tobacco and gambling addictions are associated with poor health outcomes. Same for fast foods and processed foods.
Yes, people have choices, but having economic means and a good education give you a better start and you learn better lifestyle choices in your community.
Personally, I love reading about the people who “start at the bottom and work their way to the top” or who start from very disadvantaged backgrounds and succeed in building a better life for themselves.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Yeah but being a poor minority isn't what makes you unhealthy, which is what the post was saying. It's the poor choices that are promoted in the cultures of these poor minority communities that causes health problems. Yes, it's hard to go against the grain, but we all have a responsibility to ourselves to do it, and telling people that minorities can't do that isn't helping anyone

Yeah, but it’s harder for them. That’s why I admire people who have risen above their backgrounds.

imagine going to the doctor and they say “yeah your like really unhealthy, it’s because you're black. That will cost you 3000$”

Goodie. I hope I get to see her one day so she can tell me my medical conditions don't matter because I'm a straight white male
