Examples:
Poor diet, stress, being in survival mode constantly. That sort of stuff does impact cells.
As an example, tobacco used to be a “mark of sophistication” (think of the smoking in Mad Men). Now tobacco (and vape products) are mostly marketed towards more “downmarket” demographics.
Gambling- the biggest “pokie dens” (gaming machine venues) are in lower socioeconomic communities. Tobacco and gambling addictions are associated with poor health outcomes. Same for fast foods and processed foods.
Yes, people have choices, but having economic means and a good education give you a better start and you learn better lifestyle choices in your community.
Personally, I love reading about the people who “start at the bottom and work their way to the top” or who start from very disadvantaged backgrounds and succeed in building a better life for themselves.
