I did post semi-MAGA content for a while but I deleted it. I learned that they try to hook you on through emotion more than facts. As much effort as they put into toning it down, there is strong xenophobia and transphobia within it. I'm sad that some of our protestors have gone violent and burned down cars, because that is the exact image that MAGA wants to make of us.

That being said, I wished President Trump a happy birthday in the politics stream because I do not condone violence against him, despite his flaws. But I'm definitely worried about what Trump and Netanyahu might do with the onset of more foreign conflicts.

Hey, leave the right for the xenophobia and transphobia, stay gone for the misogyny, general racism, math-, science- and history-denial.

What's crazy is that rural Americans, who formed much of early MAGA, could be the most hurt by some of Trump's possible actions like the BBB.

And a little data to back up the deficit claim: https://amarkfoundation.org/reports/u-s-presidents-and-the-federal-deficit/

remember back in the 1800s when democrats and republicans were the same party? that's where the og war hawks came from, pushing us into the war of 1812

Despite the fact that the party names stay the same, there's dubious value in thinking of those as the same parties. Also, the Republican party was founded later in the 19th century. Wouldn't that have been the Democrats and the Whigs?

I think affluent and wealthy moderates went with Trump not only due to "wokeness" but also the fact that they can get more money under his policies even if they disagree with his social and moral views. I can't back that up yet but just saying.

So, moderate people resented attempts to address the unfairness that they had been benefiting from? Alas, human nature.

So, today is Juneteenth, when we commemorate the end of slavery in the US. Anyone who describes that as "woke" in a negative way has just outed their own discomfort with acknowledging the deep racial inequity that has (and still does) shaped our country. Ditto with Pride, if you ask me. If we can recognize that the system is unfair in ways that affect us badly (the price of egggggsss!), we can start to recognize that other people, other groups, get a worse deal. That's what "woke" should mean: having woken to the existence of other people's needs and stories.

real, trump can give every american family a mansion with his name on it, and people will still hate him if it comes at the expense of the planet and the less fortunate around the world

But he won't, never would have. Here's more of the same . . . note what it means in particular for rural families: https://www.npr.org/2025/06/20/nx-s1-5437851/children-poverty-republicans-big-beautiful-bill-reconciliation

Only for those of us who haven't been keeping score. Generally since Reagan, Republican presidents have driven up debt and increased the wealth divide (making the richest richer at the expense of the poorer). The GAO predicted ahead of the election that the policies Trump ran on would increase the deficit and hurt his key rural and working class constituents, but in our divided media climate, those voters didn't have access to, or didn't trust, the many non-partisan sources that warned them.

I don't see MAGA as enemies, I see them as lost and in need of hope just like us. They are our American brothers and sisters who fell for a great trap and will need help to get out of it.

They are lost to us. They're in a cult, and they are the only ones who can get themselves out.
