Yes they are, and the workers are not handcuffed ("protected") by OSHA, not able to unionize, ya know, all the things that make hiring Americans prohibitively expensive for low-margin, capital-intensive industries like hospitality and agriculture. If we want American workers to work these jobs, we need to cut regulations and eliminate minimum wage or the price of food will skyrocket to compensate for skyrocketing labor costs

First, ICE is going after illegal aliens. Businesses hire illegal aliens because they can pay them less than a US citizen, usually below minimum wage, and without healthcare, social security taxes, or unemployment benefits. You're advocating for these businesses to take advantage of these illegal immigrants. The argument you are making is like a pre Civil War southern saying "Who will pick the cotton if we free the slaves"

some businesses do, but not all. and no, that's not what i was saying. i'm saying the business model of many companies in those industries was counting on a certain size of workforce to accommodate a certain size of demand. when you quickly strip away a significant fraction of the workforce, you make it even harder for the businesses to meet demand. some jobs will be filled by US citizens, but many won't. also, there are other industries whose survival depends on the success of those three industries. if you wanted to change the landscape of these industries, you should do it slowly so they can adapt without failure. that's just common sense.

I have no sympathy for businesses that exploit the labor of illegal aliens. They are a cancer that depresses wages for US citizens. The cancer needs to be removed. I am confident the voids left will be filled.
