What contributions did he make beyond $$$? As to why he is white -- this is what happens when one group is privileged to extract wealth and resources without any regard to the impact on the people who live in the colonized country for 350 years. (This obscenely inequitable amassing of generational wealth is why the South African government is trying to step with the Employment Equity Act, which is being typified by people who are afraid of losing their unearned privilege as "white genocide".)

the Employment Equity Act: https://www.dw.com/en/south-africas-democratic-alliance-fights-new-equity-law/a-72441196

And the Musk family fortune came from their partial ownership of an emerald mine in Zambia, where the labor and lives of Black people were transmuted into colonial wealth. Musk apparently denies it now, but admitted to it in an interview with Forbes: https://web.archive.org/web/20140802011449/http://www.forbes.com/sites/jimclash/2014/07/28/elon-musk-tells-me-his-secret-of-success-hint-it-aint-about-the-money/

Musk can't undo the mistakes he and his family made in the past. But he can use the family fortune he exponentially grew through investment to do legitimate good for the world. I know he isn't very public about giving to charity, nor does he give away large percentages of his wealth, but he did donate money to help hurricane victims in North Carolina and other states.

If he regarded them as mistakes, he would own up to them rather than publicly denying them. Look at the Heirs of Slavery as a counter example: https://qz.com/some-descendants-of-british-slave-owners-want-the-uk-to-1850367720

Either way, I see you looking to find excuses for Musk and Trump and unwilling to offer the same grace to even center-left figures (like Kamala Harris). Think about this, please.

I'm worried about some of the things Trump is doing, but I don't think Democrats have the right footing yet. Biden and Harris, while trying to be moderate, weren't charismatic speakers like Trump and lacked the populist appeal. Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez, while wanting to stop climate change and improve economic fairness, plan to do it with socialism, which would fail in a country this populous and consumerist. And they're traveling from campaign to campaign in a luxury jet, so how is that different from Trump's new Air Force One? I just feel like both parties are severely flawed.

"weren't charismatic speakers like Trump"
You mean they didn't lie non-stop in order to incite a hateful, gullible, stupid, rich, violent, criminal (usually at least 3 apply to each one) fan base?

Over half a year ago, a larger percentage of us Americans asked for Trump, and he won by popular and electoral vote. Now we're going to have to live with him until 2029, whether we like it or not. No impeachment, no coup, nada. In that time frame, Democrats need to not only look better than Trump but BE better than Trump. They need to promise to actually help marginalized groups, solve climate change, prevent the next world war, and fix the economy to restore their reputation.

Over half a year ago, a plurality of Americans voted for Trump. That was a disaster. The Democrats already are better than Trump, but expecting them to fix all the problems of the world while they are out of power as a condition of trusting them is a logical impossibility.

True, what I meant was that Dems needed to change their campaign strategy and prove to Americans that they are better at solving the issues that Trump is either making worse or not doing enough to fix. It could take decades, but it will happen if Democrats and Republicans cooperate for the sake of America and the world.

I'm surprised that Trump and some other Republicans want the BBB. It increases the national debt and undoes a lot of the government spending reductions from DOGE. I was cool with it when undocumented individuals who were committing crimes on our soil or escaping charges in their home country were being deported, but I am concerned about those who want to do good for America but just weren't able to acquire documentation. I am also concerned about the state of many legal immigrants, especially international students, after Trump's new laws. And I was really hoping Trump of all people would be the guy to make peace with China and Russia.

Again, their whole project was to destroy the federal government and profit from the ruins.

In a previous comment chain, I gave citations for this. The Rabbi Hillel says, "What is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbor. That is the whole Torah; the rest is commentary -- NOW GO AND READ."
