Trouble is in a world of online echo chambers everything gets distilled into an Us V Them mentality. It's always all or nothing with no room for nuance. Pick a side. You're not allowed to pick and choose your opinion on individual aspects of an insanely complex situation that dates back many decades (or even centuries).
You can be completely opposed to the actions of the government of a country without being opposed to most of its citizens or its language and culture. They're not mutually exclusive. You can also be completely appalled and saddened by the IDF bombing civilians to pieces as by Hamas gunning down civilians in a rampage.
(Inb4 the argument by some that Israelis aren't innocent civilians because they do military service/serve for a force that is illegally occupying land, or Palestinians aren't innocent civilians because a lot of them still support Hamas. They're still mostly non-combatants at any rate and I don't think Gaza has a standing army of 2 million. Also I'm not sure toddlers (on either side) are very good at holding a rifle so surely we can at least leave them out of the argument? (Or are we gonna say they are also legitimate targets because they may grow up to be combatants – if they're allowed to grow up, that is. Even war is supposed to have some rules, both in international law and in religious teachings.)
