If you're arguing with the purpose to convince someone of something, you're assuming you're correct. This is unhealthy because you're now likely to have a blind spot or higher tolerance for weaknesses in your statement.
But this is how most arguments are.

I try to think that the purpose of an argument is to find truths. For that, you need to have- ideally- no bias towards the side you're representing.
Changing your stance shouldn't be seen a sign of weakness.

now that i look over my statement again...
it seems more like getting someone to your side
or changing them
I mean like
of course everyone has opinions
exactly why people argue
Is the flaw in this statement that its assuming its correct?
if so
that's not what I tried to imply
I apologize for the wording

it ok
You’re right about the ethics of arguing and the imaginary value we attach to "getting someone on our side".

Usually, the point of an argument isn’t to bring the other person to your cause, but to make sure that their side doesn’t go unchallenged. At least, this is applicable to when people bicker about politics.
