Brutal Truth

How do you know you'll never meet someone irl? 🤔 And can you ever even truly know yourself anyway? Some of the most meaningful and instructive conversations I've had have been with people I may never meet face to face.

I met my husband online but I didn't know him until I met him. I didn't trust him until I met him. Just be careful. Lotta people out there trying to find people to exploit and hurt.

Yeah, I get that: the internet is full of dangerous weirdos and endless scammers ngl and you've gotta keep your wits about you, for sure. You're absolutely right that there are so many people out there looking to exploit others and screw them over.

I guess I'm still a bit naive. I like to think people are still people. Most of us are very different irl to how we act online.

A lot of us argue online and if we met irl we might actually get on great, which is a bit weird.

The internet gives us enough anonymity that we show our ugly side in comments we disagree with. It's like all we want to do is argue. I'm not into arguing or trying to teach reality to anyone. Out in the real world, where I live, everyone is being super kind and polite to each other because of the ugly going on online and in social media. I like that much, much better. You can tell if someone is a real threat if they're standing in front of you and you have no social media cares. I feel bad for the kids growing up in it. I'm glad I missed it.

Arguing online feels like safe venting. Sometimes arguing helps us let go of all the anger and fear we're carrying around right now too. It will get better. It always does.

I stopped using Twitter for that reason. Just a giant insult echo chamber lol. Get a life, folks.

And yes, I feel bad for kids born after 2000. They'll never know what the world was like before it went nuts lol.
