Categorizing things can be useful, especially when the goal is to divide and conquer. Labels do an excellent job of keeping us divided, and therefore easier to conquer.
In the US, our defacto two-party system panders to diametrically opposed caricatures, forcing everyone to support the box they hate less. Could be worse I suppose, though the diference beween not voting because your vote is meaningless and not voting because you aren't allowed to is marginal, at least when it comes to presidential elections. Maybe repeal the electoral college and I'll think about visiting the polls. Til then, it's all a stupid puppet show.
Fwiw, I support owning guns, vacuuming fetuses, doing drugs and paying for sex. I guess that makes me a libertarian. I also support a progressive tax structure with a $100,000 standard deduction, capital punishment without the trillion-year long appeals process, strict environmental controls for individuals and stricter environmental controls for corporations.
