You imply this is some sort of leverage. It isn't. Those pictures have been widely available online for quite some time, I imagine. They were a professional photo shoot, not blurry Polaroids found in the back of a basement somewhere...
By contrast, I imagine Obama probably was scandalized by pictures of his mother circulating, and would have taken efforts to limit their traction if possible.
