The huge irony is that the quality and honesty of whatever 'news' citizens received would automatically vastly improve.

In all seriousness, America needs comprehensive information reform, that makes the media subject to the criminal and civil fraud laws.

I agree that if I am a guest on the news, that the news should not be liable if I commit fraud.

However, when the news intentionally perpetrates the fraud — it should be held accountable, just like everyone else.

Yes, but we still have to default to the 1st Amendment; and so it gets tricky. This leeway is how and why 95% of the nation's media outlets became nothing more then permanent political propaganda arms of the Dem Party's leadership. On the other hand it seems that market forces are beginning the process of bankrupting most of the traditional and hyper-corrupt media outlets BECAUSE they are no longer trustworthy news sources. Maybe it all works out.
