It’s worth noting that the soldiers in the letter specifically criticize the fact that Israel is spending all of their resources on waging a “war” (or, more accurately, a massacre) that endangers both Palestinians and hostages alike, when it would be more productive to negotiate with Hamas and free the Palestinians they themselves arbitrarily detain. They’re still lying to themselves that this is about the hostages, despite quotes directly from Israeli officials themselves saying otherwise.
