Most people don't research where the stuff they buy comes from, and even if they do, that information is not always straight forward.
Consumers choose what to buy based on what it is, and how much it costs. Because most shopping is online, quality isn't even a huge factor in the choice anymore (since it can't be verified beforhand).
Even if they do have an inkling that it's unethically produced, the lure of cheap often overrides any attempt to buy ethically. (Temu, alli express, shein, etc.)
They best way to get people to stop buying unethical foreign goods, is to make them more expensive. People will either stop buying foreign goods, or it will at least be an income stream for the government.
