Who doesn't know that those are costumes from The Handmaid's Tale. And no, I haven't read it, nor will I ever. I avoid propaganda books that point the finger at the wrong people.

The dystopian future won't be Christians trying to impose a patriarchal order. That is never what Christianity has ever been about.

The dystopian future is here. It is cancel culture, it is DEI, it is the deep state, it is narcissistic leftists who just cannot stand when people think for themselves and act in their own best interest. The "handmaids" are anyone who does not march in 100% lockstep with the fascist left.

Well, thanks for the parenting flashback. If you're ready to open your mind a little bit, since you claim to be against fascism, here's what Margaret Atwood says about the work:

Speaking to The Guardian when the series first launched, the award-winning author explained: “When it first came out it was viewed as being far-fetched. However, when I wrote it I was making sure I wasn’t putting anything into it that humans had not already done somewhere at some time.”

The article goes on to explain the real, historical sources for the horrible things in the novel (and the show), many of them (although not all) done in the name of Christianity:

Read and think, or own yourself on the side of ignorance.

Why do libs support Hamas? Libs love trashing Christians and yet they support Palestine over Israel. Why is that? Why didn't Margaret Atwood write her book about Islam? It wouldn't have to be fiction. Nope. Instead she writes about some bizarre future where pseudo-Christians have forgotten all about the Bible and only live to fulfill every liberal's worst nightmare.

Hamas? Where'd that come from in this discussion?

And calling the abusive ones pseudo-Christian sounds awfully like someone on the other side of the political spectrum saying that Mao was a pseudo-Communist. The people who held the Salem witch trials and put scold's bridles on women who spoke their minds were Christians, just not very nice ones.

So your belief is that the Handmaid's Tale is what Jesus taught. Because that's the only way you can make your comparison to Mao's communism valid.

Well I suppose you should've read the Bible before you watched Handmaid's Tale. The Bible does not teach men to treat women anything like that. If there ever was a Christian or Christian group who had created a society like that then they were not getting that from the Bible.

I mentioned Hamas because of you're comparison of Handmaid's Tale to Christianity. Yet the left stands with Hamas and their attempts to kill all of the Jews. AND specifically because of their treatment of women. It's a real life example of what you think about Christianity.

Read the history of the Salam witch trails. It was started by the superstitious fears of the people and was stopped by church pastors speaking out against this wickedness of those who were accusing innocent people of being witches.

I believe that Christianity is more than "what Jesus taught", which is what makes the comparison to Maoist practice work. The Puritans of New England and medieval Catholics, and the Pentacostal family I grew up with that wouldn't allow their daughter to wear pants, even for PE, were all Christians, restricting their womenfolk because of the values that they felt were central to their Christian belief.

The problem is not the religion. The problem is narcissism. There are people who believe it is their right to control other people. Religion, government and any other groups or organizations are the tools those people use.

Right now today's narcissistic control freaks have dominated the Democrat party. Since Marx's spouted is nonsense the control freaks have left religion and now want the government to have that control over people. Now religion is a nuisance to them. So they point to their ideological predecessors who used religion to control people as the problem with religion. It is not, with the exception of Islam. Islam has several commandments in their Quran to kill the unbelievers, specifically Jews. I very much unlike the Bible, those commandments are still in force. The Bible never gave any commandments to kill everyone it perpetuity.

It is when you understand that the teachings of all of God, Jesus, the prophets, the apostles and the letters from Paul do not teach control. It is all about freedom. It is their teachings that deeply inspired the founding fathers to give us the freest nation to have ever existed.

When you fully understand freedom then if someone disagrees with you then you just let it go. It is not your right or responsibility to change their minds. Even if you think they are wrong.

But that isn't what leftists are about. If you don't march in lockstep with them then they cancel you. You are called a nazi, a fascist, a bigot and about 5 other standard insults (because they can't think of anything else).

With regards to what you said about your Pentecostal family, not all parents have all of the answers. Most of them are just winging it. Some do a good job and some are awful. Then there are the parents who abuse their children, sexually, physically and/or emotionally. Some parents use religion to hide behind to try to justify their behavior. But that doesn't mean there aren't atheist parents who do the same things. The percentages are not higher in religious families. I haven't researched it but I would think atheist parents would be the most screwed up.
